In this webinar we will discuss the basic components of reflective parenting, which are manifest in parents? behavioral sensitivity as well as their capacity for reflective functioning (PRF). Both are evidence of the parents? capacity to mentalize or imagine what the child is thinking and feeling and respond accordingly, particularly in moments of high intensity arousal (both positive and negative). We will describe the Relational Foundations of Reflection model (Slade, 2023) as it applies to enhancing parental reflective capacities in the therapeutic context. It is important for clinicians to both recognize and support reflective parenting and identify and respond to the disruptions that have such consequential effects for child, parent, and the parent-child relationship.
